Welcome to the Office of College Aid

Our goal is to work with you and your family in developing a plan to pay for college. The formula is simple. We combine family resources along with need-based resources to meet the cost of attendance. The cost of attendance is tuition, room and board, books and personal expenses and an allowance for travel where applicable. The financial aid process and your special family financial circumstances can be complex and confusing. The Office of College Aid is available year-round to assist students and families in deciphering their personal circumstances and beginning the students pursuit to college. Let us help you make your dream to attend the University of Chicago a reality. Feel free stop by our office, telephone or e-mail us with any questions you have about financial aid.

News and Announcements

Prospective Students:

On Wednesday May 7 2008, President George W. Bush signed legislation that increased the loan limits for undergraduate students. Effective for the 2008-09 school year, students now may borrow an additional $2,000 from the unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loan program. If you want to borrow additional unsubsidized funds based on the new loan limits, please print and complete a new 2008-09 Federal Stafford Loan Instruction and Amount Request Form, add this additional amount to the base amount, indicate the total amount on step two, and be sure to check the unsubsidized box on step three.

Upperclass Students:

Stafford and PLUS Loan Request forms are due if you plan on applying for either of these loans in 2008-09

Need-Blind / Need-Based Aid

At the University of Chicago, the Admissions Committee evaluates admissions applications without regard to financial need. The Committee on College Aid determines financial aid based on demonstrated financial need only, this means that we calculate your family's ability to pay based on income and assets. Our office does not award merit or athletic scholarships. The Office of College Aid strives to meet 100 percent of demonstrated need throughout your undergraduate career. Unless your family circumstances change, your financial aid award will remain relatively similar from one year to the next.
